LED Display's Classification

There're many types of LED display for choice. Generally, LED displays could be classified in following ways.




1. Classification by Application.


LED display could be used for indoor, outdoor or semi-outdoor applications.

Indoor LED display generally ranges from less than 1 square meter to over 10 square meters. It's usually used for indoor applications. This type of LED display has a moderate brightness, large viewing angle, but light weight. It's suitable for watching at a close range.

Outdoor LED display's area is from several square meters to 10 or even hundreds of square meters. Its brightness is around 5500~8500cd/sqm. This display sreen can be used under the direct sunlight. It's better for watching from a certain distance, say tens of meters. Besides, this outdoor LED display is weather-proof and lightning-resistant.

Semi-outdoor LED display screen has a relatively higher brightness than indoor LED display. It can be used for outdoor application in condition that there's no direct sunlight. It's generally used under eaves or in shop window.

2. Classification by Color

Monochrome LED display, Biocolor LED display, Full-color LED display

Monochrome LED display has only one color light-emitting materials, which usually is red. Yellowgreen is also used for some special circumstance, such as in funeral parlour.

Biocolor LED display is composed by the red and green LED lights. 256 biocolor display can display 65,536 colors.

Full-color LED display is consisted of red, green and blue LED lights. It could white balance and 16,777,216 colors.

3. Classification by Control: Synchronous and Asynchronous


Synchronization means that LED display works basically like a computer monitor. The display screen updates pictures at a rate of at least 30 fields/sec.

Asynchronous refers that LED display screen has storage and auto-play function. You could edit text content and images with PC, and upload to LED screen via the serial interface or other network; then the display would play offline automatically. This kinds of display is generally used for displaying text information.

5. Classification by Display Content

Video Display: usually full-color LED display
Text Display: usually monochrome LED display
Graphic Display: generally biocolor LED display
Market Quotations Display: generally digital or monochrome LED display


6. Classification by Display


LED Digital Display: the display mainly applied 7-segment digital tube; it's suitable for production of clock screens,interest rate screens, or other electronic display.

LED Matrix Display: the display unit is a matrix module composed by numbers of light-emitting diodes in lines; it's suitable for displaying text or image information.

LED Video Display: the display unit is consisted of many light-emitting diodes; it's a good choice to display animation and other video files.
