Fruit Batteries to Power up LED Light

Recently, Britain's leading photographer, Caleb Charland, launched his new work "Back to Light", using fruits and vegetables as batteries to power up LED light. The photographs are amazing, demonstrating basic scientific principles with most common things around us. "Back to Light" is inspired by a classic school test, potato battery. "By inserting a galvanized nail into one side of a potato and a copper wire in the other side a small electrical current is generated. The utter simplicity of this electrical phenomenon is endlessly fascinating for me." Charland said.  The experimental subjects are not only potatoes, but also other kinds of fruits or vegetables. He once made a temporary battery with a lime, or supplied power via a pile of apples, or even powered up LED light by just an orange. New LED Technology: Enjoy Sunbath at Home Day or Night

Have you ever thought of having sunbath at home anytime of day or night? It's absolutely possible now. Paolo di Trapani, from Ys Boulia University, Italy, developed this new technology, "artificial daylight". This technology uses LED panel, and the light emits through transparent plastic panels. The major breakthrough is titania nanoparticles, which is invisible to eyes, are applied for this design. These particles are used for scattering light, which is similar to the principle of sunlight through the Earth's atmosphere. Some people might think it's "unnecessary" to do so; but this process is simulated Reylight scattering, thus make the light appears more "real". In fact, "natural light" helps relieve depression and reduce stress. But people seldom access to it. Therefore, this technology helps you to enjoy daylight at home anytime of day or night. Although currently there is no related products for sale, Paolo di

LED Traffic Baton Able to Display Text Information

In many cities, traffic congestion is always a big problem for traffic police especially in rush hour. Many polices have to direct the traffic by traffic batons. But the fact is that it's difficult to attract drivers' attention, especially from a far distance, by traditional traffic baton; thus a new type of LED traffic baton which can show alert text information comes into being. As we mentioned, this LED traffic baton can display text information. When police swings the traffic baton, there will be "slow" or "fast" information showing in the air. This helps a lot with traffic dispersion. Although many manufactures have been committing to solar panel's production and improvement on energy efficiency for years, they still could not break the energy efficiency, which is 20%, bottleneck. In this case, people gradually shift their focus to energy saving LED. This trend formed in the second half of 2013, and is expected to step into a breaking growth of LED lighting in the next 3 years. The first wave of LED industry originated from the financial tsunami at the end of 2008. Samsung released LED-backlit TVs and enjoyed an unexpectedly hot-selling at that time, which opened up to an 18-month growth of LED TVs. LED TV's penetration rate steadily increased, from 3% in 2009 to 38% in 2011. LED share prices enjoyed a globally high rise. But a big change happened in 2011

Panasonic Releases UV-LED Module

Recently, Panasonic has developed sterilization module, UV-LED, which takes use of ultraviolet from 270nm wavelength generated by LED. This module will be released on June 16, 2014. Deep UV from 270nm wavelength show a strong ability in sterilization. However, the source for deep ultraviolet before is mainly from cold cathode tube or mercury light. The source size is large, and frequency converter is need to power up the light; therefore it requires a large installation space. Besides, there are also problems caused by fragile glass, harmful mercury, ozone and other issues like failure in instant power-up. Panasonic's new product, UV-LED, solves the problems mentioned above. The company significantly reduces the crystalline defect density of LED chip, and successfully generate deep ultraviolet from 270nm wavelength by an output power of 10mW. It's confirmed that irradiating by UV-LED for 10 minutes will achieve 99.9% of sterilization. Panasonic makes use of deep

Do's N' Don'ts with LED Display

LED display is popular for indoor and outdoor display applications. To get the most out of your LED display, I put together this simple list of do's and don'ts for using. It's simple yet quite informative. 1. Do start PC before switching on display screen; and shut the PC off after switching off the display. If you do it in a wrong way, it will cause a serious failure in display and LEDs. 2. Make sure that the interval between switching on and off the display is over 5 minutes. 3. Better to power up the LED display after you access the project control software in computer. 4. Do not start up LED display when it's all white in screen, because the current impact to the system reaches the maximum. 5. Do not start up LED display if the controlling section is not power on. 6. Do not use the display for a long time if the ambient temperature is too high or against heat dissipation. 7. Do shut off the display screen if one part of it appears very bright.

How to Select High Quality LED Displays?

If you're going to buy LED displays, you'd better check the following information for reference. 1. Flatness. LED display's surface flatness should be within ±1mm so as that the displayed image is not distorted. A partially-raised section or other types of unflatness would cause a viewing angle problem. Flatness is mainly determined by the quality of production process. 2. Brightness and View Angle. Proper brightness is a key factor to LED displays' performance. The brightness of indoor full-color LED display is about 800~2000cd/m2, and outdoor full-color displays' brightness is 5000~7500cd/m2. A higher or lower brightness over an actual need would lead to invisibility. Screen brightness is determined by the size of LED chips. View angle directly affects how many audience the display is good for; thus, in a certain circumstance, the larger the view angle, the better the LED display. Outdoor full-color LED Display 3. White Balance Effect. Whit

LED Display Screen Buying Guide

Before you carry out a big purchase for LED display screen, you'd better check the following information first. 1. Brightness. Generally, brightness varies in accordance with different applications. A. Brightness for indoor use> 800CD/M2 B. Brightness for semi-indoor:> 2000CD/M2 C. Brightness for outdoor use(display screen faces north):> 4000CD/M2 D. Brightness for outdoor use(display screen faces south):> 8000CD/M2 The brightness of red, green and blue light contribute differently in composition of white light. Here a are some data and specifications for you reference. Generally brightness ratio for these 3 colors is 3:6:1. Precise ratio is 3.0:5.9:1.1. With a certain brightness and pixel density, the calculation for a single-tube's brightness would be as follows. Take two red light, one green, and one blue light for example. Red LED light's would be: Brightness (CD) / M2 ÷ Pixels / M2 × 0.3 ÷ 2 Green LED light's brightness: brightness(
