China LED products in the U.S. market are now in an embarrassing situation, big sales volume, but obscure brand identity. Toshiba made some adjustments on LED market strategy. It said that its American market would not be limited to developing and selling LED lamps and LED bulbs. Recently, Toshiba announced that it would cancel its LED Lighting Division, located in Houston, Texas, before March 31, 2014. Toshiba Lighting headquarter in the U.S. will be taken over by Greenstar Lighting Products which is a subsidiary of Toshiba's in San Antonio, Texas. At the same time, Toshiba announced that the company will no longer focus on LED lamps and bulbs in American market. Recently, researchers from Washington University declare that the world's thinnest LED is only equivalent to the thickness of 3 atoms. The co-author of the study report, Xiaodong Xu said , "Foldable LED in such thinness would be crucial to the research on portable electronic devices." The researchers indicated that the thickness of such kind of LED is 10 to 20 times thinner than that of today's LED. Besides, it's foldable, which will greatly enhance its flexibility. It's reported that a sample product from Philips LED cannot meet the standards according to the quality inspection of China's General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine(AQSIQ) on January 23, 2014.
