Recently, Panasonic has developed sterilization module, UV-LED, which takes use of ultraviolet from 270nm wavelength generated by LED. This module will be released on June 16, 2014.
Deep UV from 270nm wavelength show a strong ability in sterilization. However, the source for deep ultraviolet before is mainly from cold cathode tube or mercury light. The source size is large, and frequency converter is need to power up the light; therefore it requires a large installation space. Besides, there are also problems caused by fragile glass, harmful mercury, ozone and other issues like failure in instant power-up.
Panasonic's new product, UV-LED, solves the problems mentioned above. The company significantly reduces the crystalline defect density of LED chip, and successfully generate deep ultraviolet from 270nm wavelength by an output power of 10mW. It's confirmed that irradiating by UV-LED for 10 minutes will achieve 99.9% of sterilization.
Panasonic makes use of deep ultraviolet LED for sterilization module products. The product is supported by LED light source, and enjoys a thin (thickness: ie3.25mm), small (15mm×25mm) design, and water-proof(IPX4) function; therefore, it's perfect to be embedded in small home appliances and residential water system. In addition, the product does not contain any mercury or generate any ozone, thus it's an eco-friendly product.
Moreover, the product is equipped with a UV-LED chip developed by RIKEN in Japan. The service life of UV-LED is over 10,000 hours.

I'm trying to decide what type of recessed lighting I want for my bathroom. I'm jumping between recessed LED
ReplyDeleteDown lights and using flush mount lights for my bathroom. I think I'm going to go for the flush mount lights because of the aesthetic appeal but now I'm wondering if I should look into can lights or led light modules. People have compared both of them to floodlights and we do need a lot of lighting in the bathroom. What do you guys think?
