According to the retail price survey on LED bulbs carried out by TrendForce, the retail price of LED bulbs used to replace 40 watt bulbs drops to $15.1 USD, about 0.8%, all around the world in Feb, 2014; the decline is relatively obvious in U.S. market. Also, the price of replacement LED bulbs for 60W, shows a similar decline, about 2.1%. It decreases to $20.8 USD.
In February this year, the price of 40W replacement LED bulb in U.S. market fell the most obviously. The average price fell 11%. 7W LED light bulb(luminous flux: 470lm) from Walmart's own brand, Great Value, only costs $8.48 USD; CREE dimmable LED bulb(6W, 450lm) is now $7.49 USD. Besides, prices of parts of Philips LED bulbs also undergo a decline.
As to 60W replacement bulbs, the price in everywhere shows a stable falling except United States; price there shows a 2.6% rise instead.The fact is parts of high-price items' return to market causes the rise of average prices. Take 13.5W bulb(luminous flux: 800lm) from Lighting Science for example. It was temporarily stopped selling; but now it returns with a new price 20.6 USD.
The price declines globally; meanwhile, LEDinside observes that many brand companies are now pursuing to improve bulb performance. Currently in North American market, 90% of brand bulbs are designed with dimming function, and 70% are bulbs with large light-emitting angle. Moreover, smart control function becomes one important part of many manufacturers's R&D work. Philips releases Hue bulb in China market; Samsung also announces the launch of a new smart LED light bulb which has built-in Bluetooth, and the brightness and color temperature could be controlled via a smartphone or tablet.
LEDinside believes that the improvement on cost-effectiveness will enhance and accelerate the integration of regional markets, and smart lighting will also become one of the major trends for lighting products.
