Toshiba made some adjustments on LED market strategy. It said that its American market would not be limited to developing and selling LED lamps and LED bulbs.
Recently, Toshiba announced that it would cancel its LED Lighting Division, located in Houston, Texas, before March 31, 2014. Toshiba Lighting headquarter in the U.S. will be taken over by Greenstar Lighting Products which is a subsidiary of Toshiba's in San Antonio, Texas.
At the same time, Toshiba announced that the company will no longer focus on LED lamps and bulbs in American market.
A Toshiba spokesman said, Greenstar will become Toshiba Lighting's headquarter throughout the Americas. It, in a short term, will focus on developing lighting products for street and industrial lighting products.
The spokesman also added, from now on, Toshiba will minimize R&D on lamps for the American market. As U.S standard lamps could only be used in U.S., Toshiba plans to develop more universal products for better returns. "
It's said that Toshiba will still commit to worldwide LED lighting business, because LED lighting is an indispensable part for Toshiba to serve intelligent and high-efficient city system.
